Trivia
- One of
extremely few music videos to have sign language for the benefit of the
hearing-impaired. -
Lean On Me was the first music video directed by prolific video-directing
team Vaughan & Anthea. It was the start of a productive working
relationship, as the pair would go on to direct several Red Box videos,
the others being Heart Of The Sun and Train. Summary
Music-video antics on a set with a park bench and tall hedge
backdrop. In addition to singing, Simon and Julian act out some of
the lyrics as well--for example, the "ten men they get up" are
represented by finger puppets [see screen shot below]. A carousel
appears and disappears, and crowds of people teleport in to join the merry
frolicking. Throughout the video, various text (sometimes the
lyrics, sometimes other languages) appears vertically on the right side of
the screen. A sign-language interpreter appears throughout. Discography

Whoo!

Simon can't bear to watch...

Simon with cute Asian kids.

Woah, those don't look like regulation semaphore flags to me. Never
make colour guard that way.

Is there any better way to represent all the diverse nations and peoples
of the world than a painted board with holes in it? Umm... don't
answer that.

Simon contemplates playing some whack-a-mole with the above-mentioned
board.
