Lyrics
I'm sending out a signal while I listen to this voice
It's beating to the rhythm of a drum
My confidence is high and on receiving a reply
I'll change my pace to metronome run
This time I find I'm really dying
My hopes are fading
With the rain
If I should fall
Don't turn 'round
Somebody move
Somebody go
Somebody make it even
Somebody please
Send them away
Now continue to amaze me
The following conversation has a particle of truth
It rattles 'round your personal room
Understanding nothing but dictating almost all
You kill the very heart of a tune
I've always said you were two-sided
I can see it in your eyes
If I should fall
Don't turn 'round
Somebody move
Somebody go
Somebody make it even
Somebody please
Send them away
Now continue to amaze me
[ululation]
This time I find I'm really dying
My hopes are fading
With the rain
If I should fall
Don't turn 'round
Somebody please
Send them away
Now continue to amaze me
Somebody move
Somebody go
Somebody make it even
Somebody please
Send them away
Now continue to amaze me
Stinging bee, (repeats)
Stinging, stinging, stinging!
Trivia
- Stinging Bee is a song about David Motion and the
process of recording The Circle And The Square.
Simon and Julian enjoyed working with Motion, who was fresh off the
excellent Strawberry Switchblade album. At the time, WEA was
pressuring Red Box to work with other producers, with mixed results
("Somebody please / send them away!").
Commentary
"A very complete, well-rounded
b-side which could indeed have been a worthy album track. There's
even a remix of it on the 12", which is excellent as well. It
would be the first Red Box b-side to get a remix, but that achievement is
overshadowed by Enjoy, which got the full
royal treatment with its own single years
later. Stinging, stinging, stinging!"
