"Red Box"
Never Trust Your Soul
POLO 1230 Polo Records 1984

A long-deleted rarity from Simon & Co.?  Nah, just some unlucky new-wavers who happened to pick the same name.  D'oh!

Track Listing

1). Never Trust Your Soul
2). Never Trust Your Soul [club mix]
3). Never Trust Your Soul [instrumental version]

Commentary

"Anybody who's started a band knows how tough it is to pick just the right band name.  Almost as many know how frustrating it is to finally find the perfect name, and then realise it's already been taken.  But what if you actually put out a record of your opus and then realised your name was already taken?  Right, it would be brown trousers time, wouldn't it?  That's exactly what happened here when "Never Trust Your Soul" came out as a 12" vinyl in the UK.

Certainly not some bargain-basement production, the single is produced by none other than Rob Davis, formerly of 70s rock chart toppers Mud, and who would later achieve legendary producer status with Kylie's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", which he also co-wrote.  The engineer was Tony Spath of 10cc.  And the song is actually quite good as well.  But it isn't Red Box."

If anybody knows more about this other Red Box, just who they were exactly and whether they ever released anything else, please drop us a line.
